In approving the design for the brand new , full service Holiday Inn, in Orange County, CA, one of the Planning Commissioners commented that the project sets the bar high for architects proposing designs in the future in the vicinity. The project consists of a five story, Holiday Inn franchised hotel on an existing lot that has two office buildings that are going to be demolished to make way for the hotel. The hotel building will consist of approximately 150 rooms with two levels of parking garage located in a basement and first floor.

The first floor provides common areas for guest use, such as lobby, registration, restaurant and lounge. The facility will also have meeting rooms for guest use and functions. A outdoor pool and spa are also provided on the ground level on the south side of the building.

The design of the building is a significant departure and enhancement from the franchise prototypical design. The design reflects a scale and aesthetics compatible with the existing office buildings to the north and south of the property.

In addition to uplifting exterior design, the building features air-conditioning and heating system utilizing energy saving water-source heat pumps for the entire building. Each façade’s composition has been carefully arranged, to provide deeply recessed openings, metal sunshades and trims in a manner that is not excessively repetitive. A focal point of the design is a curved curtain wall that spans horizontally between two towers. All facades of the building are designed to be appealing to provide a "360° architecture".

Exterior materials are comprised of steel-trowelled stucco and simulated stone. The layout of the guest units provides ample articulation in the façade, to minimize the impact of the mass of the building by breaking the façade into smaller elements.

The project is situated in a important gateway location to the city close to Irvine Spectrum.
